Wildcats, Panthers have strong showing at league track quad in Hoyt

Royal Valley and Holton saw a host of league opponents in a meet hosted by the Panthers on Tuesday and both teams stacked up pretty well as no team finished worse then third.

The Panthers finished runner-up on both the boys and girls side in their home meet, while the Holton boys took the team title in Hoyt and the HHS girls finished third.

Holton was led by four individual champions, including double first-place medalist Indie Allen (long jump and triple jump), along with Spencer Baum (200m dash), Will Wright (400m dash) and Riley Strader (3200m run). In addition, the boys swept first place in all the relays.

Fittingly, Royal Valley finished second behind the Wildcats on the strength of several individual runner-up finishes, while Patrick Broxterman led the way with a pair of first-place finishes in the high jump and 300m hurdles.

For the girls, both HHS and RV had two individual champions on Tuesday, with Kimmie Snepp (100m dash) and Ashley Cook (200m dash) both placing first for the Wildcats, while Panther Kate Hanson finished on top in both the shot put and javelin and Macy Putnam came in first in the 300m hurdles. The Wildcats also finished first in the 4x100m relay.

Both teams will return to action next Tuesday as Holton will compete at the ACCHS Invitational, while Royal Valley will host its April Invitational. Meanwhile, the HHS freshmen and sophomores will compete at a meet hosted by Jeff West this Thursday starting at 4 p.m.
