Couple to celebrate golden anniversary

George and Sarah Phillips of Holton will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 18.

They were married on Jan. 18, 1969, at the Denison Union Church, now the Denison Bible Church.

George’s parents are Harlan and Eleanor Phillips. Sarah’s parents are Howard and Lucile Shaw.

The couple have three children, Theresa Hoffner and her husband, Lee; Michele Straubel and her husband, Paul; and Brian Phillips and his wife, Sarah. The couple also have 12 grandchildren.

The couple spent eight years of their married life living in the Canton area of Ohio. The rest of their years together have been spent in Kansas, most of them on the family farm east of Holton where Sarah was raised.

George is retired from dairy farming, and Sarah from teaching elementary music. However, George continues to raise a few cattle and farm, and Sarah teaches several piano students.

They are active members of Denison Bible Church, where George is an elder and Sarah plans and helps lead the music. Both of them regularly teach Sunday School.

They are especially active in the Denison community, where George is on the cemetery board, and Sarah works with the park and library.

Whenever they have the opportunity, they love spending time with their children and grandchildren.

They will celebrate their anniversary with their family at a later date.

Cards may be sent to them at 21763 W4 Rd., Holton, KS 66436.
