Iran’s quest for nuclear weapons had to be stopped by U.S. sometime

Is the U.S., Israel and the world in general safer now than it was before Sunday?
Leaders in the U.S. and Israel, and many other countries, adamantly believe so.
On June 22, 2025, the United States Air Force and Navy attacked three nuclear facilities in Iran, it was reported, acting on U.S. Intelligence reports that Iran was nearing final work to build nuclear bombs.
Iran’s Fordow Uranium Enrichment Plant, its Natanz Nuclear Facility, and its Isfahan Nuclear Technology Center were reportedly all targeted with 14 GBU-57A/B MOP (Massive Ordnance Penetrator) 30,000-pound (14,000 kg) “bunker buster’’ bombs carried by Northrop B-2 Spirit stealth bombers, and with Tomahawk missiles fired from a submarine.
The U.S. attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities was given the codename Operation Midnight Hammer. U.S. President Donald Trump said the military operation was a “very successful attack.’’
Iran’s government has long proclaimed its hatred of Israel and the United States with its promotions of national chants such as “Death to Israel’’ and “Death to America’’ ingrained in the Iranian mindset for at least 50 years.
The conflict between Iran and Israel has been intensifying since the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks by Hamas, as Hamas is known to be funded by Iran.
Iran’s government has stated its primary goal of completely destroying Israel and all of the Jewish people.
Historically, the U.S. has supported Israel in the Middle East, and particularly has helped finance Israel’s military, as well as supporting Israel’s military actions.
Because of the threats made to Israel and the U.S., President Trump has publicly stated many times that Iran’s government should not be allowed to have nuclear weapons, saying the biggest sponsor of terrorism in the world should not have the most lethal bombs in the world.
One of the major Iranian nuclear sites - the Fordow Uranium Enrichment Plant - was estimated to be located 80 to 90 meters (or about 295 feet) underground.
Because of its deep location, the U.S. military officials had proposed the use of GBU-57A/B MOP “bunker buster’’ bombs, which can only be carried by a B-2 bomber, to destroy Fordow.
The U.S. is the only nation to possess either of these capabilities.
Choosing to take the Iranian government’s threats seriously to completely destroy Israel - and the U.S. - if it could - with nuclear bombs, President Trump ordered the military to utilize the B-2 bomber and the “bunker buster’’ bombs to eliminate the threat.
A cease fire in the Israel-Iran conflict was reportedly declared on June 23 and then subsequently violated by both sides soon after that.
Now is not a good time for political rhetoric and second-guessing the president and our military.
Let’s stand united as a country, show some trust in our leaders and hope and pray that the world is indeed a safer place now than it was before, because it has to be.
