William Rice 1988-2025
William Christopher Rice, Mag-Weis, 37, Lawrence, died Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at his home.
He was born March 5, 1988, in Lawrence, the son of Christopher Rice and Yvette Lewis.
Mr. Rice was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and the Native American Church.
He married Miranda Danielson on July 4, 2013, in Topeka. She survives.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Orville Rice Jr.; his father-in-law, Steve Jon Danielson; his aunt, Sylvia Johnson; and two uncles, Brad Rice and Kevin Rice.
Other survivors include his father, Christopher Rice, Nedrow, N.Y.; his mother, Yvette Lewis, Topeka; his stepmother, Kristina Isaac, Nedrow, N.Y.; his grandmother, Betty Jean Mahkuk Rice, Rossville; his mother-in-law, Debra Danielson, Lawrence; two sons, William Christopher Rice Jr. and Leo Orville Rice; two daughters, Mariah Kathryn Rice and Shayla Calliope Rice; three brothers, Kyle Rice and Bug Rice, both of Nedrow, N.Y., and Angel Ortega and wife Lydia, Topeka; three sisters, Tera Valdivia and husband Michael, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Julia Phillips and husband K.J. and Shela Ortega, all of Topeka; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A supper, followed by Native American Church services, will be held Tuesday evening, July 29 at the Native American Church, west of Mayetta. Burial will be held Wednesday morning in the Mahkuk Cemetery. Chapel Oaks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
