Vickie Barr 1943-2026

Vickie L. Barr, 82, formerly of Hoyt, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the Lexington Park Health and Rehabilitation Center in Topeka.

She was born Aug. 1, 1943, at Hays, the daughter of Warren and Marge Walters Moore. She graduated from Bethel College with a bachelor’s degree in social work, and received her master’s degree in social work from The University of Kansas.

Vickie worked at various jobs, including Mammels Store and Dillons Grocery. Her career was as a clinical social worker, working with hospices and geriatric psychiatric units.

She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta and the Altar Society at the church. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary at Hays, the National Association of Social Workers and the Kansas Association of Medical Social Workers, where she served as treasurer. She was a Girl Scout and a Girl Scout Leader for 4 Winds Girl Scout Council.

She married Larry Barr on July 24, 1961, at LaCrosse. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1984. Vickie was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary Beth Higgins.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Barr, Atlanta, Ga., Bev Johnson (Daniel), Topeka, and Stacie Garcia (Daniel), Newton; a brother, Dick Moore, Great Bend; two sisters, Terri Gray, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Shari Johnson, Topeka; six grandchildren, Chris Garcia (Allie), Erica Garcia, Luke Johnson (Chantal), Eli Johnson, Hannah Ayala (Bryan) and Lydia Lange (Rory); and three great-grandchildren, Devin Burke, David Ayala and Rita Lange.

A memorial mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 22 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta. Inurnment and committal service will be held at 3:30 p.m. that day at St. Michael Cemetery in LaCrosse.
