Tex Manuel 1932-2025
Tex Richard Manuel was born Sept. 29, 1932, in the home where he currently resided in rural Havensville. Tex entered into his eternal life on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.
Tex was a loving husband, father, grandpa and steward of the land. Tex married the love of his life, Jean Alice Fellingham, on April 7, 1957, in Borger, Texas. Three children were born to this union: twin daughters, Tammy Rae (Bill) Wesley and Terry Renee (Terry) Jordan, and son, Tex Richard (Teri) Manuel II, all of Havensville.
Tex worked on the family farm his entire life, many years in partnership with his brother Clem. Tex loved animals, nurturing many throughout his years, sharing this love with his family. You could find Tex and his hounds hitting a hot track and being out for hours. He also had a passion for searching and collecting arrowheads. Tex went to work for Michigan-Wisconsin pipeline, where he served 28 years, retiring with ANR Pipeline.
Tex and Jean always had family around them; whether it be weekend meals, holiday gatherings or Chiefs football games, the farm was the place for making memories. Their house was full of love, laughter and loud cheering for their Chiefs. Nothing made Tex happier than to have his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids around him. Tex will be remembered as a historian for his knowledge of remembering important dates and events in his community.
Tex graduated from Havensville Rural High School with the class of 1951, then he honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Tex was a lifelong member of the American Legion. Tex did not hesitate to share his life with his grandkids, flying kites, sledding or going to the creek for fun activities.
Tex is survived by his children; grandkids, Brandi Wesley, Chance Wesley, Colt (Richelle) Wesley, Tanner Jordan, Casey (Scott) Parker, Tayla Manuel and Tex “Trey” Manuel III; great-grandkids, Kloee, Skye, Caleb, Quincy, Connor, Theo, Aliyah, Reagan and Taylor; a brother-in-law, Dwayne Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tex was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Ross and Stella Mae (Channel) Manuel; his loving wife, Jean Alice; brothers, Clement and Duane Manuel; sister, Virginia Martin; son-in-law, Bill Wesley; and nieces, nephews and friends. Tex will be remembered for his smile, quiet chuckle, ornery personality and mischievous twinkle in his eye. He generously shared “I Love Yous” with those he loved.
Tex will lie in state from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3 at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga, where a visitation is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4 at Havensville Christian Church.
Memorials are suggested to Havesnville Christian Church or the American Legion, and may be sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, P.O. Box 312, Onaga, KS 66521. Online condolences may be made at chapeloaksfuneralhome.com
