Terry CrossBear 1952-2025

Terry Lee “I’yan-Luta”/”PSatuk” CrossBear, 72, of Mayetta, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the Medicalodges of Leavenworth.

He was born Nov. 30, 1952, in Topeka, the son of Michael “Mike” and Isabelle (Mitchell) CrossBear.

Terry attended Topeka High School and earned his G.E.D. in the Army. He served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1973, earning the rank of E-4. He also attended Iowa State University.

Terry was the lead driver for the Prairie Band Transportation Department, executive director for Chicago Indian Center, executive director for Blue Earth and worked as an Uber driver. He was a member of Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and was a member of We-ta-se Post #410. Terry had a love of music and was a lifelong musician. He was also an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan.

Terry is survived by his companion of 15 years, Lisa Stanley-Winsea; his children, Stephanie Yazzie of Oklahoma City, Okla., Dallas Bearskin of Winnebago, Neb., Pete CrossBear of Albuquerque, N.M., Sage Bumgartner of Memphis, Tenn., and E’Haunee CrossBear of Topeka; his sisters, Linda Yazzie of Mayetta and Ramona Cole of Plano, Texas; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Vernon Yazzie and Norwood Frank “Woody” Nocktonick.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 20 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in John Mitchell Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 19 at the funeral home.
