Sue Hubbard 1946-2024

Sue Hubbard, 78, of Horton, died Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Stormont-Vail Health Center in Topeka.

She was born March 15, 1946, in Talihina, Okla., the daughter of Williston and Miriam Samuels Samuel.

Mrs. Hubbard worked as a dental assistant for Indian Health Services for 31 years. She first worked at Concho, Okla., then at Holton, and later at Haskell in Lawrence until her retirement.

She was of the Baptist faith.

She married Galen “Sal” Hubbard on May 28, 1965, in Topeka. He died Jan. 2, 2023. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Doris Stoliby and Delores Marris; and a brother, Timothy Samuel who, along with their mother, died in childbirth.

Survivors include two sons, Sean Hubbard and wife Robin, Carbondale, and Duane Hubbard, Wetmore; two daughters, Galenna Nelson and husband Darrin, Topeka, and Miriam Hubbard and husband Mark, Horton; two sisters, Mary Etheridge and husband Ron, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Jeannette Maytubbi, Idabel, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 29 at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Shipshee Cemetery. Mrs. Hubbard will lie in state after noon on Sunday at the funeral home, where a visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
