Steven Dillon 1947-2024

Steven J. Dillon Sr., 76, Topeka, died Saturday, May 25, 2024, surrounded by family at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka.

He was born Sept. 16, 1947, in Topeka, the son of Clifford “Doc” and Helen Woodard Dillon. He graduated from Seaman High School in 1965.

Mr. Dillon was drafted into the U.S. Army right after high school. He served with the 577th Engineer Battalion in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart. He later was a carpenter with Union 1445 in Topeka.

He was a member of American Legion Post 400 in Topeka.

He married Darlene Michaelis after returning from Vietnam. They later divorced. He married Joyce Alexander in 1981. She survives.

Other survivors incude his children, Steven Dillon Jr. and wife Kim, Staci Mattwaoshshe and Charlie Dillon, all of Topeka; five grandchildren, A.J., Kylie and husband Nathan, Hunter, Tegan and Robin; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Dillon, Topeka; a sister, Janice Black, Omaha, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Clifford; and a brother, Dan Dillon.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 31 at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt. Burial with military honors will follow in Prairie Home Cemetery. Mr. Dillon will lie in state after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
