Sean Kelly 1960-2020

Sean M. Kelly, 60, Topeka, formerly of Holton, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020 at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka.

He was born Aug. 13, 1960, at Manhattan, the son of Paul and Marilyn Riley Kelly. He graduated from Holton High School in 1978, earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and economics from Benedictine College in Atchison, Magna Cum Laude, a master’s degree in economics from Yale University and an MBA from Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.

Sean had served on the board of the Beck Bookman Library in Holton. He was an advanced scuba diver and traveled extensively for work and pleasure. His travels included Belize, Panama, Honduras, Europe, South America and Singapore. He was also an avid book reader.

He had worked for the CIA as an energy analyst and for the W.R. Grace company as a business intelligence analyst. He also worked for the Florida Power and Light Company, Enron and Microsoft. He was currently working for Bankers Life and Casualty in Topeka.

Sean was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his three brothers, Timothy Kelly and Thomas Kelly, both of Holton, and Brendan Kelly, Overland Park.

Memorial graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at Mount Calvary Cemetery west of Holton. A rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Friday at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton, followed by visitation until 7:30 p.m. Please wear a mask for the rosary and visitation.
