Richard Fields 1949-2024

Richard Lee Fields, 75, Netawaka, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024, in Netawaka.

He was born Oct. 5, 1949, in Onaga, the son of Roscoe Russell and Esther Viola Baker Fields. He graduated from Onaga High School in 1967.

Mr. Fields worked at Morton Buildings, Inc. from 1977 to 1990 and also worked at Jackson Heights High School as head custodian from 1990 to 2000. He worked for more than 14 years at Prairie Band Casino as a slot attendant, retiring in 2014, and also worked as sexton at the Netawaka Cemetery.

He was a member of the Netawaka Fire Board for more than 15 years and a member of the Larkinburg Christian Church.

He married Deloras Ann Cattrell on Aug. 13, 1997, in Miami, Okla. She survives.

Other survivors include his children, Mary Hildebrant and husband Jonathan, Norwell, Mass., Sarah Smith and husband Perry, Wetmore, and David Cashman and wife Jenny, Topeka; a sister-in-law, Teresa Fields, Topeka; a brother, Bob Fields and wife Tammy, Greeley, Colo.; and 10 grandchildren, Jonathan Hildebrandt Jr., Heyden Hildebrandt, Grace Hildebrandt, Brooks Hildebrandt, Nicholas Hildebrandt, Newton Smith and wife Gracie, Sydney Smith, Isabelle Smith, Adyson Cashman and Taitum Cashman.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Steven Fields and Terry Fields; and a grandson, Curtis Smith.

Private family inurnment will be held in Larkinburg Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
