Ray Beatty 1947-2024
Raymond Leroy “Ray” Beatty, 77, of Holton, passed away Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, at Select Specialty Hospital in Kansas City.
He was born Jan. 1, 1947, in Topeka, the son of Alvin Leroy “Bud” and Dorothy Mae (MacArthur) Beatty Burget.
Ray graduated from Holton High School in 1965. He worked for the City of Holton as a meter reader for more than 33 years, retiring in 2011. Ray was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the United States Army. He was a lifetime member of Holton VFW Post 1367.
He married Patricia Shupe in April 1971. They later divorced. To this union they welcomed two children, Jenny and Shawn.
Ray married Darla Jo Robinson on Aug. 15, 1981, in Holton. They celebrated more than 42 years of marriage.
Survivors include his wife, Darla, of the home; a daughter, Jenny Daniel (Mike) of Holton; a son, Shawn Beatty (Grethen) of Platte City, Mo.; six grandchildren, Sophie, Zach, Alec, Robin, Michael and Richard; two great-grandchildren, Mila Ray and Oliver William; and one more on the way.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Leroy “Bud” and Dorothy Mae; and a sister, Linda Beatty.
Memorial services with military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Military honors will be conducted by Holton VFW Post 1367.
