Patricia Yingst 1930-2017
Patricia Ann Yingst, 86, Kansas City, Kansas, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at Trinity Community Church, 5010 Parallel Ave., Kansas City, where the family will receive friends immediately following the service. Committal services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Bonner Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Willa Gill Soup Kitchen, 645 Nebraska Ave., Kansas City, KS.
Pat was born Feb. 19, 1930, in Neodosha, to Charles and Doris Porter. She graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1948 and attended Park University. She was married to Ralph Yingst on June 12, 1960. They were married for 45 years before his death in 2005.
Pat had worked at the Fred S. James Insurance Co. in Crown Center before retiring in 1995. She was active in the life of churches that she attended and was a member of the former Western Highlands Presbyterian, and while at First Presbyterian Church she was a deacon and elder, and volunteered at the Soup Kitchen, and was involved with the “Lunch Bunch,” and went with her friends on trips.
Pat loved her family dearly. She enjoyed family gatherings and reunions, and vacationing with her extended family. She took particular pleasure in her grandchildren and attending their activites. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and other word games. During her time at Victory Hills Senior Living she contributed a column to the newsletter and was an active participant and leader of games for the residents.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Honaker; and her husband, Ralph, for whom she provided loving and faithful care.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Robare (George “Bernie”) of Bonner Springs; son, Jon Porter Yingst (Cheryl) of Whiting; brother, Phil Porter (Jetta) of Shawnee; brother-in-law, Don Honaker, Kansas City; and four grandchildren, Rachel Robare, Jacob (Caroline), Jason and Olivia Yingst.
