Patricia Reeves 1933-2024
Patricia Ann Reeves, 90, went to be home with her Lord and Savior on March 7, 2024, at Olathe Hospice House in Olathe.
She was born Sept. 5, 1933, to John Hollinger Wealand and Dollie May Lewis Wealand in Lee’s Summit, Mo. She graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in Lee’s Summit, Mo., in 1952.
She was married to John Calvin Holman for nine years. They divorced and had no children. She married James Donald Reeves on May 26, 1967, in Raytown, Mo.
Pat loved her family fiercely and they all had incredible love for her. She had so many interests, talents and hobbies. She said she didn’t know how anyone could be bored. She enjoyed working in the gardens of flowers and vegetables. When her health began to fail, she still spent time in her garden until she started falling off her bucket seat. She had to call Don to help her up.
Her hobbies included making large wax candles, water color painting, sewing and crochet. She enjoyed putting puzzles together, canning fruit and vegetables and was an avid reader. She enjoyed playing Uno and other games with her family.
She also enjoyed acting some. She dressed up like an uneducated mountain girl with a crazy face for comedy skits. Joan Pruitt was her first sidekick during the Messenger Quartet Program at the fair building in Holton. Sharon Bowser later became her sidekick at church performances. Her audiences just cracked up with laughter.
Don and Pat pastored the Holton Church of the Nazarene for 19 1/2 years. She was a Sunday school teacher and church treasurer for many years. Pat loved serving her Savior and doing the work of the church. She fully believed God called her to minister with her husband.
During her lifetime she also worked as a file clerk for American Ins. Co. for two years in Kansas City, Mo.; Commercial Credit Co. for two years in Kansas City, Mo.; Nazarene Headquarters for six years in Kansas City, Mo.; Clark’s Eye Care for 2 1/2 years in Holton; and Country Mart as a cake decorator for 11 years in Holton. She also did child care in her home for six years.
Pat is survived by her husband, James Donald Reeves; two daughters, Jennie Hansen of Overland Park and Nancy Reeves of Olathe; two granddaughters, Amber Becerra of Mound City and Calley Gavrilyuk of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a grandson, Adrik Reeves-Portsche of Olathe; two great-grandsons, Gentry Becerra and Hank Becerra, both of Mound City; and a great-granddaughter, Eliza Becerra of Mound City. She was preceded in death by her son, James Matthew Reeves, who was stillborn on Feb. 2, 1971.
A visitation will be held at Westbrooke Church, 9777 Antioch Rd., Overland Park, KS 66212 at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, with a celebration of life service following at 2 p.m. Pat chose to be cremated.
