Pat Smith 1934-2026

Patricia Ann “Dolly” Smith, 91, of Holton, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka, with family by her side.

She was born Nov. 24, 1934, in Soldier, the daughter of Virgil and Edna (Ewing) Burnett.

Pat graduated from Soldier High School in 1952. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was well-known for her cooking and baking, enjoyed decorating her home and making floral arrangements. She collected cookbooks over the years. She had a kind, pleasant and gentle way.

She was baptized at Soldier United Methodist Church and had been attending First United Methodist Church in Holton. She was a member of the Topeka Women of the Moose Lodge, Pleasant Valley Ladies Unit, Banner Ladies Aide and 4-H with her kids, showing mostly cattle.

Pat married Lucern “Smitty” Smith on Oct. 11, 1952, in Holton. He preceded her in death on March 4, 2004, after 51 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Edna Burnett, and two twin brothers, Warren and Willis. Three children preceded her as well: two sons, Timmy Joe Smith and Rickey Smith, and a daughter, Brenda Sue.

Survivors include her daughter, Kristie Hundley (Randy) of Holton; son Dr. Delaine Smith (Lt. Col. USAF, ret.) of Holton; two grandchildren, Shelly Hundley and Brandon Hundley (Deb); and two great-grandchildren, Abel Lucern and Avery Rose.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. before service time. Pat will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Holton Cemetery.
