Neola Risinger 1931-2017
Neola L. Wood Risinger, 86, Perry, formerly of Valley Falls, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, at a Topeka care facility.
She was born Feb. 19, 1931, at Denison, the daughter of Harold E. and Grace Ferrell Scarlett. She graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1949.
Mrs. Risinger owned and operated Valley Falls Barber Shop for 37 years. She also was a homemaker in Denison before moving in 1963 to Valley Falls with her children.
She was a member of Valley Falls United Methodist Church and had attended Valley Falls Christian Church.
She married Norman Wood on Aug. 26, 1948, in Fayetteville, Ark. He died Aug. 13, 1961. She married Carl Risinger on June 5, 1965, at Valley Falls. He died Aug. 20, 2014. She also was preceded in death by an infant son, Jerry Lee Wood; two brothers, Devere and Everett Scarlett; and three sisters, Arlene Gier, Marilyn Kesinger and Jane Etzel.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Wood and wife Kathy, Olathe, and Roger Wood and wife Ruth, Meriden; a daughter, Renae Pritchard and husband Andy, Perry; four brothers, Marlin Scarlett, Sabetha, Harlin Scarlett and Gary Scarlett, both of Topeka, and John Scarlett, Wellsville; three sisters, Anita Graham, Meriden, Leota Bolz, Topeka, and Helen Gibson, Rapid City, S.D.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will be held in Denison Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.
