Melvena Ingels 1931-2022

Melvena Mae Vandervort Ingels, 91, of Netawaka, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2022, at The Pines in Holton.

She was born April 18, 1931, in Holton, the daughter of Melvin and Hazel Mae (Wilson) Young.

Melvena attended Lonestar Country School and graduated from Holton High School in 1949.

She worked for Adkins Insurance Agency, formerly Singer Insurance Agency, and Crow and Gilliland Insurance. Melvena retired after 50½ years.

She enjoyed her family, square dancing and her cats and dogs.

Melvena married Wilbur Leon Vandervort on May 16, 1952; he preceded her in death on July 30, 1971. She married Marvin Albert Ingels on June 30, 1973, in Holton; he preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 2015.

Survivors include two brothers, Carroll Young of Santa Fe, N.M., and Leonard Young of Topeka; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.
