Max Deck 1925-2015
Max David Deck, 90, of Holton, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at Glenn Moore Meadows in Holton.
He was born Feb. 16, 1925, in Circleville, the son of Charles Oscar and Bertha Olga (Pool) Deck.
After attending school in Circleville, Max proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Max lived in the Holton community most of his life. His love for old cars started at a very young age. In his early years, he operated the Sinclair Station in Holton and worked for Bottenberg Motors and Clark Chevrolet. He sold insurance for Farmers Mutual Insurance Company and later American Family Insurance. He also operated furniture stores in Holton and Valley Falls. Max owned and operated the Cottage Market in Holton for more than 30 years before he retired.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Holton, Circleville Masonic Lodge 20, Holton V.F.W. Post 1367 and Arab Shrine Temple in Topeka.
Max married Katherine “Dee” Deck on May 27, 1950, in Holton. She preceded him in death on July 26, 1996. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Diane M. Deck, in 1972; a sister, Charlyene Deck; and two brothers, Keith and Robert Deck.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary E. Deck, Columbia, Mo.; a son, James D. Deck (Kimberly), Los Angeles, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Siena and Julian Deck.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors will follow in Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
