Mary Callaway 1946-2016
Mary Lou Potter Callaway, 69, of Wetmore, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 17, 2016, at her home surrounded by family.
Mary was born April 1, 1946, in White Cloud, one of seven children born to the late Robert and Ruth Gibson Gormley. She grew up and attended school in White Cloud, and in later years, worked hard to earn her GED. Mary worked for area nursing homes and Jackson County Training Center, but her main interest was her family and how she could help them, especially being able to spend time with her grandchildren.
She married Harvey L. Potter in February of 1963 in Fanning. They farmed and raised livestock in the Holton area until his death on July 26, 1984. She later married Barry K. Callaway on Aug. 13, 2010. He survives of the home.
She is also survived by a son LeRoy (Deb) Potter of Wetmore; six daughters, Elizabeth (David) Schraer of Wetmore, Brenda Henry of Holton, Ruth (Daryl) Wamsley of Powhattan, Junetta Dunham of Kansas City, Heather (Chad) Duryea of Corning and Robyn Potter of the home; her grandchildren, Kelli, Krista, Torrey, Alicia, Alyssa, Justus, Andrea, Chelsie, Alex, Codey, Haley, Justin, April, Jesse, Sarah, Brandi, Joseph, Nicholas, Kaitlyn and Johnathan; and her great-grandchildren, Addeline, Emmalyn, Colten, Leyna and Ayden. Also surviving are a brother, Gary Gormley, of Pensacola, Fla.; and sister Bonnie Greeve of Chanute.
Mary was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Casey, and great-grandson, Max; and siblings, Joseph and Charles Gormley, Barb Taylor and JoAnn McNutt.
Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21 at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland. Her granddaughter, Alicia Spalding, will officiate. Interment will follow in Iowa Point Cemetery north of Highland. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will meet from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m.
