Marjorie Bostwick 1949-2026
Marjorie Jo Bostwick, 76, of Hoyt, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026, in Topeka.
She was born the daughter of Gerald and Wilma (Maris) Gooderl on Dec. 16, 1949, in Holton. Marjorie graduated from Hoyt High School in 1967.
She married John Bostwick on Oct. 24, 1971. They were married 42 years prior to John’s passing in 2014.
Marjorie started her working career at Foster’s Fabric in Topeka. She enjoyed working with brides the most in planning their special day. Marjorie was a wonderful seamstress and shared her talents with many friends and family. When she and John moved to Emporia, she worked in the business office at Blue Stem Farm Store. She enjoyed her time there because it reminded her of her childhood growing up on the family farm. She and John returned to Topeka, where she began her employment at Washburn University, where she had a 32-year career in the business office. Marjorie loved being a part of the Washburn University family and cheering on the Ichabods.
Marjorie was a devoted aunt and godmother. She loved to attend all the sporting activities of her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and godchildren. She also had a special love for KU basketball, but most of her family was proudest when she wore Royal Valley Purple.
She is survived by a sister, Gerri Stithem; a brother, Roger (Mary) Gooderl; special cousin, Donna (Kevin) Montague; nieces, Myra Stithem, Kim (Thad) Gerety, Penny (Paul) Barger, Amy (Jason) Klotz, Sheryl (Andy) Barnett and Linda (Danny) Anno; nephews, Jerry Stithem, Scott (Deb) Gooderl and Jeff (Brenda) Stithem; and godchildren, Madison Henley and Kaden Henley. She also has 15 great-nieces and nephews and 18 great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and nephew Jimmy Stithem.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 6 at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time.
Memorial contributions may be made to Royal Valley High School Athletics, and may be sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, P.O. Box 280, Hoyt, KS 66440. Online condolences may be made at chapeloaksfuneralhome.com
