Marianna Jim 1996-2022
Marianna “Mahne” Diamond Jim departed this life and began her journey back to the source of all things in the early hours of Friday, Jan. 14, 2022, at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City.
She was born April 23, 1996, at St. Francis hospital in Topeka to William “Bill” Jim Sr. and Leatrice Jim. She was the youngest of five siblings and a member of Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.
Mahne was a fiercely loyal and creative young soul who had an innate talent for creating things of beauty out of almost any material under the sun: metal, paper and especially clay. She attended Royal Valley in grades K-12 where she shined brightest when sharing her gifts for song and performance.
She was a dedicated member of the Royal Valley Forensics team; her hard work and talent enabled her to represent her school at the state tournament level and eventually perform at nationals. After graduation she continued to serve as a forensics judge to help foster a love of speech and performance arts in a new generation of students in northeast Kansas.
Mahne was an animal lover and a proud cat mom. As a young adult she studied mortuary science at KCKCC. Her true passion was in her friendships and her hobbies; she loved Hamilton the Musical, playing D&D, attending Pride rallies, Renaissance Fairs and comic conventions. Her empathy and sense of humor were truly unmatched. To say that she was a beloved daughter, sister and friend doesn’t begin to encompass what a gift her light gave us while she was ours.
She is survived by both of her parents, Bill and Lea Jim of Mayetta. Other survivors include her siblings, her brother William “Billy” Jim Jr. and sister-in-law Stephanie Jim of Mayetta, her brother Jesse Jim of Mayetta, her brother Brian Jim and sister-in-law Andrea Wahwasuck of Shawnee, Okla., and her sister Cassandra Jim and brother-in-law Jeffrey Cook Jr. of Lawrence. She is also survived by both of her grandmothers, Mary May of Holton and Corneil Donahue of Hiawatha, as well as many uncles and aunties.
Other survivors include five nieces, Tressa Jim, Trulee Jim, Juniper Cook, Tatiana Wahwasuck and Juliet Jim; and six nephews, Abram Cook, Jesse Jim Jr., Kane Wahwasuck, Vernon Jim, Dallas Jim and Royal Jim. She is preceded in death by her grandfathers Paulino Jim Sr. and Alvin May and her nieces Natalie Jim and Lyliana Shroeder.
The family has chosen to postpone services at this time due to COVID-19. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date. Visitation will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21 at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt for friends and family to pay respects. Online condolences may be made at chapeloaksfuneralhome.com
