Lyle Beam 1936-2026

Lyle Leroy Beam, 89, of Holton, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, with family by his side.

He was born Dec. 17, 1936, in Netawaka, the son of Harold Warner and Elnora Marie (Beaman) Beam.

Lyle attended Maple Grove Grade School and graduated from Holton High School in 1955. He lived most of his life in Holton and Netawaka communities. For two years he lived in Emporia (while Betty was in college) and a few years in Topeka.

From 1955 to 1961, he farmed the family farm alongside his dad. He worked for five years at the Kansas State Highway Commission as a heavy equipment operator and Goodyear in the accounts receivable (Hawaii District), then returned to farming. He was also a bookkeeper for Henry Brothers Implement and later a cashier at Prairie Band Casino, all while still farming.

He attended Trinity Lutheran Church and he was a member of the Kansas National Guard Company C in Holton for 10 years.

Lyle married Betty Elaine Bohnenkemper on Aug. 20, 1961, in Holton. From this marriage are two children, Jon and Jolene. She preceded him in death on Dec. 14, 2006, after more than 45 years of marriage.

He married Darlene J. Tuck on July 7, 2007 in Holton; they celebrated more than 18 years of marriage.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene, of the home; children, Jon W. Beam (Michelle) of Vancouver, Wash., and Jolene F. Schlossman (Martin) of Topeka; four grandchildren, Olivia Beam, Marshall Beam, Hope Werner (Braden) and Matthew Schlossman (Randi); and three great-grandchildren, Joy, Brooks and Theodore.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Martin Schlossman III.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 2 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Holton Cemetery. Family request casual attire. Family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
