Loyd Pifer 1923-2015

 

Loyd A. Pifer, 91, of Sabetha, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015, at Sabetha Manor, where he had re­sided for the past 10 years.

Loyd was born Sept. 24, 1923, north of Wetmore, the son of Charles and Pauline (Muhlert) Pifer. He graduated from Wetmore High School in 1941 and served in the Army from 1944 to 1946, see­ing action in the Pacific theater.

He returned to the family farm near Bancroft, where in later years he was known as the “iron man,” scrapping out metals and loading railroad cars in Goff with the scrap iron. After marrying Arcena (Sand­ers) Wilhelm on May 27, 1975, he resided in Soldier and Morrill.

Loyd was preceded in death by his father in 1957, his mother in 1972 and his wife in 2003.

He is survived by distant cous­ins. Arcena’s children were the late Karen Stolzenberger of Morrill, Gerald Wilhelm, Falls City, Neb., Virgil Wilhelm, Holton, Roger Wilhelm, Fairview, William Wil­helm, Sabetha, and Angela Ash, Meriden.

Inurnment has taken place in the Holton cemetery beside his parents. Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha is in charge of arrangements.
