Lola Stumpf 1935-2015
Lola Mae Stumpf, 80, Mayetta, passed away Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, at her home with family by her side.
She was born July 21, 1935, in Camden, Ark., the daughter of Thomas Wesley and Estella Mae (Roberts) Word.
Lola was a member of the Mayetta community for 43 years. She was a homemaker; she was a member of the Moose Lodge in Topeka, VFW Post 400 Auxiliary and served on the Jackson County Commissioners for many years.
Lola married Eugene Donald Stumpf on Sept. 17, 1952, in Camden, Ark. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a son, Gary L. Stumpf; a sister, Myrtle “Sally” Pearl Word; and a brother, Wesley Word.
Survivors include two sons, Donald E. Stumpf (Debbie) of Crystal Lake, Ill., and William “Bill” Stumpf (Lisa) of Mayetta; an adopted son, Mark Adame (Lisa) of Colorado; dear friend and companion, Marion “Buck” Freel of Topeka; eight sisters, Mildred “Millie” Caron, Martha L. Tutt, Rose Dodds (Ronnie), Sarah Johnson, Louise Meeks (Bud), Shirley Willsey (Jerry), Olivette Price (Russell) and Claudette Kaumitz (Randy); a brother, Johnny Word (Caroline); and six grandchildren, Trey W. Stumpf, Lucas E. Stumpf, Matthew Stumpf, Michael Stumpf, Katie Stumpf and Cory Stumpf.
A celebration of Lola's life will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31 at the Hoyt Community Building.
Memorial contributions may be made to Jackson County Friends of Hospice, sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436. Lola was cremated; a book will be available at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton until Friday.
