Linda Schiffbauer 1944-2026
Linda Lou Kuykendall Schiffbauer, 81, of Holton, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness.
Linda was born on Dec. 23, 1944, in Wichita, the daughter of Samuel Ezra and Louella Elizabeth Wilson Kuykendall. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Seneca, where Linda attended Seneca Public Schools.
Education was important to Linda, and she was determined to accomplish her goals. In 1992, she earned her GED, a milestone that reflected her perseverance and dedication. She continued her education at Washburn University, earning a degree in adult care administration. In 1998, she proudly received her bachelor of applied science degree, an achievement that meant a great deal to her and stood as a testament to her hard work and determination.
Linda devoted many years to being a homemaker while raising her children. She found joy in caring for her family and creating a warm and welcoming home. She loved baking, cooking and crocheting beautiful afghan blankets. During the Christmas season, she especially enjoyed preparing trays of homemade treats to share with neighbors and friends. Linda’s generous spirit and thoughtful acts of kindness brought happiness to many, and she found great fulfillment in helping others whenever she could.
Linda married Ralph Schiffbauer in April 1961. Together they shared 35 years of marriage and raised their family before later divorcing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Louella Kuykendall; her daughter, Helen Elizabeth Schiffbauer; and her siblings, Ginia Kuykendall and Sam Kuykendall.
Linda is survived by her children, Susan (Ward) Shughart of Atchison, Butch (Marge) Schiffbauer of Dubois, Neb., Tina (John) Schiffbauer of McMinnville, Tenn., and Tessa (Aaron) Becker of Kansas City, Mo.; her sister, Donna Andriano of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 12 at Bern Cemetery in Bern. There will be a reception at the DuBois (Neb.) Community Center following the service.
