Larry Wilkening 1937-2017
Larry Wilkening, 80, Mayetta, died Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka.
He was born April 4, 1937, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Raymond and Lucille Wilkening.
Mr. Wilkening worked various jobs before joining the police department in Elmhurst, Ill. After moving to Kansas, he worked several different jobs before joining the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, where he became corrections captain at the Jackson County Detention Center.
He married Elizabeth Ann Heath on May 8, 1970, in Illinois. She survives.
Other survivors include two sisters, Linda Hough, Elmhurst, Ill., and Lisa Ramos, Lombard, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Potawatomi United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Mayetta Cemetery. Mr. Wilkening will lie in state until 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt, where family and friends will meet from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today.
