Kenneth Farmer 1928-2024

Kenneth L. Farmer, 95, of Holton, passed away at Vintage Park in Holton on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

He was born Aug. 20, 1928, the only child of James L. Farmer and Katie G. (Shupe) Farmer. He was raised on a farm near Circleville, attended Circleville Grade School and graduated from Circleville High School in 1946.

Kenny served in the U.S. Army as a medic during the Korean War, stationed in Ohm, Germany, from 1951 to 1953. He worked for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Topeka from 1953 to 1985. From 1960 to 1985, he was also a substitute rural mail carrier in the Circleville area, and beginning in 1985, he became a full-time rural mail carrier out of the Holton Post Office until he retired in 1992.

He was a member of United Steelworkers Union 307, National Rural Letter Carriers Association, American Legion Post 44 and VFW Post 1367. He was also a member of the First Christian Church in Holton.

Kenny married Norma Jean Hundley on Nov. 26, 1953. To this union were born two children, daughter Kathryn Jean Farmer and son Michael James Farmer.

Survivors include his daughter, Kathy (Mike) Laird, Topeka, and son, Michael (Kendra) Farmer, Southlake, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Travis (Ashley) Rieschick, Jordan (Carolyn) Farmer, Aaron Rieschick, Bailey (Anthony) Custable and Keaton Farmer; and a great-grandson, Bennett Farmer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 29 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors will follow in Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.
