Ken Miller 1937-2024
Kenneth “Ken” Miller, 86, of Hiawatha, died on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024, in his home.
He was born in Topeka on Oct. 8, 1937, the son of Claude “Stewart” and Jennie (Karns) Miller. Ken was one of three children. His siblings were Keith Miller and Anita Kay Miller Hempy. Ken grew up and attended schools in Ontario and Circleville, where he graduated high school with the class of 1955.
Later, Ken served in the U.S. Army at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. He then moved to Topeka. Ken was employed at Goodyear for 30-plus years and was a union steward with Rubber Workers Union. Upon retiring from Goodyear, he took a job with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), where he worked another 10-plus years. He also did data collection on acreage and crops for the U.S. Department of Agriculture until his death.
Some of Ken’s favorite pastimes include prospecting using a metal detector and travel.
He married Rosemarie Eagle of Soldier. They had one son, Kent Miller, and a daughter, Gia Miller. Ken has two grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ken married Marcella “Marcy” Zirger; she survives in a care home.
Graveside services are planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Ontario Cemetery in Jackson County.
