Judy Armstrong 1943-2024
Judy Lee Armstrong, 80, of Topeka, formerly of Holton, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Midland Care in Topeka.
She was born Dec. 10, 1943, in Ft. Bragg, N.C., the daughter of Roy and Lelah (Truman) McKinsey.
Judy graduated from Holton High School in 1962; she was proud of her cheerleading and flute during her high school years. She also attended Clarks Business School in Topeka.
She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone in Topeka for more than 24 years in upper management, retiring in 1995. After retirement she went to work from 1997 to 2014 for Coldwell Banker Real Estate as a realtor.
In her early years, she was a member of First United Methodist Church in Holton and Job’s Daughters. She enjoyed visiting libraries and reading; she usually had a book in her hand. She took much joy in fishing. Judy also loved fresh flowers and was an avid Kansas Jayhawk basketball fan.
Judy married Darrell Harshaw on May 26, 1963, in Holton; they later divorced. She married Lane “Rue” Armstrong on Nov. 26, 2005, in Topeka. He survives of the home. Rue and Judy actually started their friendship in 1957, back in high school.
Survivors include children, Kim Mooers (Marc) of Lenexa, Shelly Harshaw of Overland Park, Kevin Armstrong (Pricilla) of Yorba Linda, Calif., Gwin Funk (Trent) of Fredonia, Ariz., Deneen Brake (Mike) of Lake Havasu, Ariz., Kristina Forshee (Rob) of Boerne, Texas, and Tricia Pacinelli (Joe) of Littleton, Colo.; a sister, Linda Montgomery (Larry) of Harveyville; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild on the way.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 7 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
