Josh Greening 1980-2024
Joshua Young Greening, 44, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024, in Topeka.
He was born Sept. 24, 1980, in Horton, the son of Gary and Rhonda Greening of Meriden. Josh graduated from Seaman High School in 1999 and Vo-Tech with a certificate in auto body collision repair.
Josh worked several jobs, including Masonry Concepts, West Ridge 8/Regal Theatres, Perry Lake Auto Body and Paint Refinishing, Kirby Vacuum (where he won a trip to Acapulco for being a top salesman), Davidson Funeral Home, Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex, Harrah’s Prairie Band Casino and most recently at KDOT as a highway maintenance supervisor/paint crew supervisor. Josh also owned Traditional Heating LLC, as well as Greening Whitetails Deer Farm, which had been a dream of his. He loved to take fawns to some of the local schools, daycare centers and senior living places. Everyone loved that and he would answer any and all questions about the deer.
He married the love of his life, Laura Freisen, on Sept. 1, 2007, in Topeka. They had recently celebrated 17 years together. She survives.
He is also survived by his son, one of the highlights of his life, Skyler Cole Greening, Manhattan. Other survivors include his parents, Gary and Rhonda Greening, Meriden; two sisters, Jessica (Brad) Roush, Fort Liberty, N.C., and Megan (Justin) Griffith, Olathe; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dan and Debbie Leslie, Brandon, Manitoba, Canada; five nephews and two nieces; grandmother, Dorothy Lively, Hoyt; grandfather, Leonard Young, Topeka; grandparents Jack and Betty Greening, Topeka; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.
Josh had an extraordinary gift: the ability to connect with anyone instantly and turning encounters into friendships. His worth and kindness knew no bounds and his heart was open to everyone. He never knew a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His selflessness in helping others was a beacon of hope, reminding us of the goodness in the world. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Preceding him in death were his grandfather, Dwight Lively; and uncle, E.J. Bock.
Josh received Jesus as his savior when he was eight years old and was baptized at Northland Christian Church, Topeka.
A celebration of life service was held Monday, Oct. 28 at Northland Christian Church, 3102 N.W. Topeka Blvd., Topeka.
