John Davis 1937-2025
John Edward Davis, 88, of Holton, passed away Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025, at the VA Medical Center in Topeka.
He was born Aug. 30, 1937, on the southeast section of Banner Township west of Holton, the son of Frank L. and Josephine M. (McColgin) Davis.
He graduated from Holton High School in 1955. He proudly served in the United States Army at Fort Lewis, Wash. John worked in many departments for the Jackson Farmers Co-op for 33 years and was a lifelong farmer.
He was a member of American Legion Post 44 and a 20-year member of Banner Grange.
John married Rozella M. Bonjour-Shaw on Feb. 4, 1968, in Holton. She preceded him in death on Sept. 29, 2009, after 41 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Josephine Davis; a son, Felix Berton Shaw; two sisters, Emily Jane Stoll and Marianne McClintock; and a brother, James Davis.
Survivors include two daughters, Roxanna Shaw and Sherrie Shaw, both of Holton; a sister, Harriet Patton of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren, Ginger Binkley (Scott), Robert Shaw (Sherrie) and Nicole Kinsley (Ryan); six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Graveside services with military honors will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the Holton Cemetery. John will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
