Joe Anderson 1940-2020

Joseph Gary “Joe” Anderson, 80, Topeka, died Friday, Oct. 30, 2020, at Brighton Place West in Topeka.

He was born Oct. 20, 1940, in Portland, Ore., the son of Irwin Winford and Louise Annette Robinson Anderson. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1958.

Mr. Anderson served in the U.S. Army as a medic during the Korean and Vietnam wars and became disabled. He lived in the Topeka area for most of his life.

He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Topeka.

Survivors include two nieces, Sharon J. Anderson and Vicki Jo Armstrong and husband Mike, both of Mayetta; a nephew, Alan S. Anderson, Kansas City; a sister-in-law, Mary Gerhardt-Anderson, Mayetta; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert A. Anderson.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors will follow in Mayetta Cemetery. Mr. Anderson will lie in state beginning noon Tuesday.
