JoAnn Hollis, 91, Powhattan, formerly of Goff, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2020, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Hiawatha.
She was born Oct. 15, 1928, in Goff, the daughter of Vern and Pearl Merritt Monhollon. She graduated from Goff High School in 1946 and earned her teaching degree from Emporia Teachers College.
Mrs. Hollis was a school teacher at country schools in Atchison County. She also worked at Slimaker Dress Factory for 20 years, and she owned and operated JoAnn’s Beauty Salon in Goff for 20 years.
She was a member of Goff United Methodist Church, Goff Women’s Club, United Methodist Women and served on the state board of the Kansas Federated Women’s Club.
She married Raymond Lee Hollis on Oct. 18, 1947, in Goff. He died April 21, 2006. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ernestine Kerr and Jean Rutz; and a brother-in-law, David Werner.
Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Mueseler and husband Frank, Powhattan, and Jodene Werner, Tecumseh, Neb.; a sister, Pat Smith, Bloomfield, Ky.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandsons.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28 at Goff United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Goff. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
