Jim Hossfeld 1942-2026

Jimmie August “Jim” Hossfeld, 83, of Holton, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 28, 2026, at his home.

He was born May 5, 1942 in Willis, the son of August and Maxine (Kistner) Hossfeld.

Jim graduated from Willis High School. After high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Holton.

Jim retired after many years from AT&T as an equipment technician. He loved KU sporting events —most notably KU men’s basketball — family gatherings, traveling, trap shooting, reloading, tinkering with electronics on his work bench, finding good deals on eBay and helping out at his church. His kind spirit will be missed by all.

Jim married Janet Marie Torkelson in August of 1968. They celebrated more than 57 years of marriage.

Survivors include his wife, Janet of the home, and his daughter, Debby Klahr (Brian) of Lawrence.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Lou Reynolds; and a brother, Larry Hossfeld.

Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is assisting the family.

Memorials may be given to the Trinity Lutheran Church c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436. To leave a special message for the family, please visit www.mercerfuneralhomes.com
