Jess Ribelin 1937-2024

Jess E. Ribelin, 87, of Mayetta, passed away on Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, at his home near Mayetta.

He was born July 27, 1937, at Dover, the son of Willie and Rosie Morand Ribelin. He graduated from Dover High School in 1955. He served four years in the U.S. Navy on several different ships, including a supply ship, an aircraft carrier and the U.S.S. Dixie.

Jess was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hoyt. He loved hunting and fishing and all things outdoors. He also loved a good western.

He had worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka for 32½ years and was a farmer and a rancher.

He married Lorendia Williamson on Oct. 17, 1959, in Tulare, Calif. She survives, of the home.

Jess was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joseph Ribelin, Karl Ribelin and Robert Ribelin; and one sister, Anna Mae Brown.

Other survivors include four sons, Ken Ribelin, Bryan Ribelin (Donna) and Cary Ribelin (Jamie), all of Mayetta, and Alan Ribelin (Julie), Meriden; two brothers, Steve Ribelin (Darlene), Topeka, and Richard Ribelin (Jan), Osage City; a sister-in-law, Mary Ribelin, Oklahoma City, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, with two on the way; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22 at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt. Burial with military honors will follow in Mayetta Cemetery. Jess will lie in state after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
