Jay VanNortwick 1953-2024
Jay Bruce VanNortwick, 71, Havensville, died Sunday, April 21, 2024, at The Pines of Holton with family by his side.
He was born Feb. 25, 1953, in Lawrence, the son of Cecil Lee and Alice Marie Funk VanNortwick. He attended Holton High School.
Mr. VanNortwick served in the Kansas Army National Guard for six years. He began working for Missouri Pacific in 1972 before it later merged with Union Pacific. He retired in 2013 as track foreman after more than 41 years of service.
He married Melody Pinick on Aug. 9, 1975, in Holton. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Minta Ohlsen and husband Heath, Netawaka; a son, Marshall VanNortwick and wife Susannah, Topeka; a sister, Kay Lyn VanNortwick, Eugene, Ore.; a brother, Larry VanNortwick and wife Kay, Junction City, Ore.; his mother-in-law, Merrie Pinick, Havensville; a brother-in-law, Mike Pinick and wife Stacy, Havensville; four grandchildren, Macey, Eli, Fenix and Luke; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Alice; a brother, Gary Lee VanNortwick; his father-in-law, Jerry Pinick; and a sister-in-law, Darlyne VanNortwick.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, April 26 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
