Janice Folk 1943-2024
Janice Lee “Jan” (Brown) Folk, 81, of Holton, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.
She was born Jan. 19, 1943, in New Orleans, La., the daughter of Arthur L. and Golden C. (Frevert) Brown.
Jan graduated from Holyrood High School in 1961 and attended business college in Denver, Colo. She worked as a teacher’s aide for Colorado Grade School beginning in 1974 and later as a substitute teacher coordinator for USD 336, retiring in 2013.
Jan married Ronald Folk on Sept. 1, 1962, in Holyrood. They celebrated more than 54 years of marriage before his passing on Sept. 12, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Golden Brown, and a brother, Thomas Brown.
Survivors include two sons, Douglas Folk (Shannon) of Shawnee and Scott Folk (Dee) of Holton; seven grandchildren, Dylan Folk (Jodi), Clayton Folk (Brittany), Rafferty Folk, Blayne Folk, Aaron Brooks (Suzette), Taylor Brooks and Chandler Folk; and four great-grandchildren, Carter and Mason Brooks and Brylee and Ellie Folk.
Per Jan’s request, there will be no public services. In lieu of services, friends can listen to Elvis and drink a Sonic Cherry Coke in her memory. Memorials may be given to Holton Elementary School or Holton High School Music Department, sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
