James Smith 1918-2015

 

James Kendall Smith, 96, Topeka, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

He was born Oct. 1, 1918, in Holton, the son of James A. J. and Nora Smith.

Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II in Europe and the Korean War.

He married Elva “Ruth” Hayden on July 9, 1939, in Holton. She died Oct. 28, 2013.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Murray, Topeka; a son, Gary Smith and wife Sue, Smithville, Texas; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sat­urday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independ­ence Ave., Topeka. Military honors were conducted at Holton Cemetery.
