Jack Burch 1931-2014
Jack Keith Burch, 83, Soldier, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014, at his home.
He was born Feb. 18, 1931, at Scott City, the son of Jay and Dorothy Hamblen Burch. He graduated from Plattsmouth High School in Plattsmouth, Neb., and earned an associate of arts degree in law enforcement.
Mr. Burch served in the U.S. Navy for 15 years and was a Korean war veteran. He also served three and a half years in the U.S. Army National Guard in Kansas and Missouri, and five years in the U.S. Air Force. He later worked in law enforcement for 15 years, first as a patrolman, then as an undersheriff. He was also appointed to the First Kansas State Task Force.
He was a member of Horton First Baptist Church and American Legion Post 400 in Topeka, and a former member of the Kansas Sheriff's Association.
He married Emma Nadene Denny on Oct. 8, 1950, at Gardner. She died Dec. 2, 1998. He also was preceded in death by a granddaughter.
Survivors include two sons, Keith Burch, Palm Bay, Fla., and Brian Burch, Wetmore; seven daughters, Carol Beaman, Soldier, Cathy Ehrsam, Stonewall, Okla., Tresa West, Pueblo, Colo., Sheri Burch, Bastrop, Texas, Patricia Elliott, Mexico, Mo., Rebecca Burch, Ozawkie, and Dawn Quinn, Bolivar, Mo.; a sister, Frances Morrison, Orlando, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors followed in Wetmore Cemetery.
