Iva Dedeke 1943-2014
Iva June Fail Dedeke, 71, Denison, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014.
She was born Feb. 11, 1943, in Chanute, the daughter of Ivan J. Fail and Helen Bernice Hollibaugh-Benefiel. She graduated from Altoona High School in 1961 and attended beauty school in Miami, Okla.
Mrs. Dedeke worked at Olga's Beauty Shop in Leavenworth in 1962. She later obtained her CNA and CMA certificates and worked at various places in Easton, Horton, Tahlequah, Okla., and Branson, Mo.
She was of Sioux Native American heritage.
She married Walter Dedeke on Oct. 20, 1963, in Leavenworth. He survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Tonia Nelson, Easton; a son, Terry Dedeke, Walnut Shade, Mo.; six grandchildren, Jennifer Culbertson-Hayes and husband Tyler, Jeremy Culbertson, Alyson Nelson, Aden Nelson, Christopher Dedeke and Tyler Dedeke; four great-grandchildren, Landon Hayes, Lyra and Larkyn Hayes and Alana Culbertson; three brothers, Ivan L. Fail, John Fail and Larry Fail; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Bernice Fail.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at Valley Falls Christian Church in Valley Falls. Burial was held in Bethel Cemetery, Easton.
