Harold Thompson 1927-2024

Harold E. Thompson, 96, of Denison, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024, at The Pines South in Holton.

He was born March 23, 1927, in Hoyt, the son of Elmer and Nellie V. (Mann) Thompson.

Harold graduated from Denison High School in 1944. After graduation he proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He was a lifelong member of the Denison community. He was a hard-working farmer and stockman. Harold was a member of Masonic Lodge Post 42 and a member of American Legion Post 44, both in Holton. He was an avid bowler, enjoying the sport for more than 50 years.

He married Elva H. Lutz on Aug. 19, 1956, in Holton. She preceded him in death on Dec. 3, 1994, after 38 years of marriage.

Harold married Judith Kay Kidney on June 2, 1998, in Miami, Okla. She preceded him in death on April 14, 2019, after more than 20 years of marriage.

Survivors include his daughter, Ruth Ann Thompson of Kansas City, Mo.; three stepdaughters, Kellie Decker Hundley of Holton, Tammie Decker Abel (Mark) of San Antonio, Texas, and Beckie Decker Rouse (Dennis) of Meriden; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a beloved dog, Bella.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors will follow at Denison Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
