Harold Kolbek 1933-2023

Harold R. Kolbek, 90, of Holton, passed away Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023, at The Pines in Holton.

He was born June 8, 1933, in Silver Lake, the son of John Frank and Mattie May (Viles) Kolbek.

Harold graduated from Hoyt High School in 1951. He worked for Walter Bennett Plumbing and Heating for four years and for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for more than 34 years, retiring in 1988.

He was a scout master for Troop 64 in Holton for five years.

Harold married Betty Marie Lacey on July 26, 1951, in Holton. She preceded him in death on Aug. 23, 2014, after 63 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his parents, John and Mattie Kolbek; a sister, Karen White; and two brothers, John and Raymond Kolbek.

Survivors include three children, Terry L. Kolbek (Debbie) of Topeka, Michael Kolbek (Roxann) of Silver Lake and Donna Griffin of Topeka; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11 in Holton Cemetery. Harold will lie in state Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
