Harmon Rash 1953-2025
Harmon Leroy Rash, 71, of Holton, wanted it to be known that he died on April 15, 2025, in Topeka, as a result of being bullheaded and raising cane for more than seven decades. He enjoyed Coors Light, whiskey, hunting, fishing, muscle cars, bowling and most of all the flock of women at the casino because of his beard. He joked and teased about adoring the ladies and the ladies adoring him.
Harmon was born ornery on June 4, 1953, in Holton, the son of Glen Leroy and Doris Jane (Fernkopf) Rash.
He graduated from Holton High School in 1971. Right out of high school, Harmon went to work for BMB/Alamo Group, he worked for more than 35 years and retired when they closed in 2006. He was also a lifelong farmer and stockman.
Harmon was a member of Circleville Methodist Church and served as president and caretaker of the Circleville Cemetery for 16 years. He was a former member of Holton Country Club, Circleville Saddle Club and a local bowling league. In his younger years, he was a pretty good baseball player and he loved fast-pitch softball in the summers.
Harmon married the love of his life, Debra Irene Schreiber, on April 6, 1973, in Netawaka, lovingly referring to her as “Schreiber” for more than 52 years.
Survivors include his patient and loving wife, Deb of the home; daughter, Micah Moore (Justin), son, Austin Rash (Nikki) and honorary son Ryan Childs all of Circleville; brother, Michael Rash (Kay) of Circleville; and six grandchildren, Mark Mavrovich, Jarrett-Wayne Moore, Kassidy Moore and Ava, Alexa and Bennett Rash.
Arriving at the Pearly Gates before him were his parents, Glen and Doris Rash, and a brother, Robert William Rash.
Harmon was renowned for his humor, not holding back his opinion and a knack for telling it like it was. He always told you the truth even if it was not what you wanted to hear. He was also known for his work ethic and the principle that hard work is worthy of a reward. He had a heart of gold and always willing to help others. Harmon also taught his kids to not judge a book by its cover and to treat people the way you want to be treated.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 22 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Harmon will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 19. Burial will be held at a later date at Circleville Cemetery.
