Gerald McDougal 1932-2025

Gerald McDougal 1932-2025

Gerald E. McDougal, 93, of Havensville, was born on July 19, 1932, in Corning, the son of Joseph and Bethel (Jones) McDougal. He entered into his eternal life on Friday, Oct. 10, 2025, at 7:11 a.m. in Onaga.

He was a member of the Havensville Christian Church and the American Legion.

Gerald spent most of his time on the family farm, working in the fields alongside his father, and then kept the farm going after his father passed away. He graduated from Havensville High School in 1950.

After high school he continued to help on the family farm until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955. He was stationed in Fort Lewis, Wash., before returning home to help again on the family farm. After the army, Gerald also worked as a heavy equipment operator. He ended his 55 years of work, retiring from the Pottawatomie County Road Department doing what he loved, which was operating heavy equipment.

Gerald married the love of his life, Mary Bishop, on June 29, 1974, in Havensville Christian Church. Mary had four children previous to their marriage that Gerald accepted as his own: Teresa (Dennis) Kathke, Connie (Ted) Rigas, Diane (Matt) Roggenkamp and Danny (Susan) Goode.

He also has six grandchildren, Mary (Richard) Gatza, Bruce (Allyson) Reves Jr., Jesse Goode, Kelly (Mat) Good, Danielle (Michael) Wisdom and Ashley (Chance) Cottrell; seven great-grandchildren, Sam (Jesse) Morehead, Xandria (Frank) Gent, Cooper Reves, Gage Goode, Marley Wisdom, Kenworth Cottrell and Mack Cottrell; and five great-great-grandchildren, Zoey Morehead, Brody Morehead, Ellie Morehead, Aryn Gent and Franki Gent.

If you asked Gerald what it was that he remembered in life, it was going fishing with his Grandpa Jones, going dancing every Saturday night, spending time with all the grandkids and working on the farm. Gerald liked good country music and all the fried chicken meals that his wife Mary cooked over the years.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Bethel (Jones) McDougal; his grandson, Jesse J. Goode; and other loving family members and friends.

Gerald will be remembered for his humor, his smile and his love for his family.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15 at Havensville Christian Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Havensville Cemetery. Gerald will lie in state at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga after 9 a.m. on Tuesday, where a visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Havensville Christian Church, and may be sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, P.O. Box 312, Onaga, KS 66521. Online condolences may be made at chapeloaksfuneralhome.com
