George Meggison 1923-2016
George E. Meggison, 92, Mayetta, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at Holton Community Hospital.
He was born Sept. 6, 1923, in Topeka, the son of Carroll L. and Clara I. Morand Meggison.
Mr. Meggison was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served as a medic and a paratrooper in Australia, in the Phillipines under Gen. Douglas MacArthur and in the occupation army in Sendia, Japan. He later was a truck driver and also managed the Clear Creek Oil Company in Hugoton. In his later years he worked at the Jackson County Landfill.
He married and divorced Phyllis Jean Hercules, Janetta Pierce and Dixie Riggles.
Survivors include a son, Steven Meggison, Mayetta; two daughters, Donna Meggison, Holton, and Melody Johnson, Huntsville, Ala.; a sister, Beverly Broughton, Topeka; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Meggison, Ben Fickel and Homer Fickel; and two sisters, Nettie Proctor and Pearl Cowell.
Cremation is planned. Private inurnment will be held in Leavenworth National Cemetery.
