George LaClair 1937-2025

George Frank “Smokey” LaClair, 87, Mayetta, died Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at Holton Health Care Center.

He was born Aug. 26, 1937 in Mayetta, the son of George James and Julia Gertrude Eteeyan LaClair.

Mr. LaClair was an auto mechanic for most of his life, working in Colorado and Kansas. He worked for JC Penney’s Auto and General Motors.

He was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.

He married Diane Murillo. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, George and Julia LaClair; and a brother, Floyd LaClair.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda LaClair, Mayetta, and Jill Anderson and husband Fran, Salina; four grandchildren, Denae, Chris, Joey and Brandon; and seven great-grandchildren.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements.
