George Achten 1923-2019

George Frederick Achten, 95, Wetmore, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2019, at the Apostolic Christian Church Home in Sabetha.

He was born Oct. 17, 1923, south of Granada, the son of Frederick and Anna Achten.

Mr. Achten was a farmer and stockman.

He was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Granada until its closing, at which time he joined the United Methodist Church in Wetmore.

He married Helen M. Mayer on Jan. 6, 1946. She preceded him in death, as did his parents; a daughter, Nancy; and a brother, John. 

Survivors include a daughter, Suzanne Hayosh and husband Bill, Shelby Township, Mich.; a son, James Achten and wife Susan, Wetmore; a son-in-law, Robert Stimac and wife Rose, Seneca; a brother, Kenneth Achten and wife Betty, Redding, Calif.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Wetmore. Burial will follow in Granada Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
