Gary Wilson 1956-2024
Gary Dean Wilson, also known as “Beano” and “Chief,” 67, of Mayetta, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2024, at his home, with family by his side.
He was born Sept. 30, 1956, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Robert Henry Wilson and Delores Pauline Pahmahmie.
Gary graduated from Rossville High School in 1974. He worked construction most of his life; he was a “jack of all trades.”
He was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.
Gary enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping. He had a great sense of humor and was known as the “family comedian.”
He married Sherri Howerton on July 4, 2003, in Emporia. They later divorced.
Survivors include his four children, Michelle Simon, Tosha Wilson and William Wilson, all of Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation, and Jeremy Howerton of Wichita; four sisters, Janis Matchie (Roland) of Holton, Vicki Wilson and Mary Jane Thomas, both of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation, and Charlene Mae Wilson of Rossville; a brother, Robert Wilson Jr. of Silver Lake; 10 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, July 1 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Delia Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
