Galen Oden 1938-2025

Galen Lee Oden, 86, of Grandview, Mo., passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 5, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Galen was born on Aug. 23, 1938, in his grandparents’ home in Holton to Leslie and Helen Oden. By 1949 Galen and his family moved and settled in Kansas City, Mo. Galen graduated from Center High School in 1957. Galen was very active in the Boy Scouts and achieved his Eagle Scout. He was also a runner in the tribe of Micosay.

Galen received his associate of arts degree while in the Air Force. He spent 28 years in the military and retired as a Master Sergeant in Mobility Support. He later worked for Hallmark Cards and retired after more than 30 years’ service.

Galen is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kathryn Oden; his sister, Wanda Norton; and his children, Gayle Powell, Marianne Giles and her husband David, James Oden and his wife Kimberly, Patricia Hatfield and her husband Tony and Christopher Oden. He had 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson and many nieces and nephews.

Galen is preceded in death by Leslie and Helen Marie Oden, James and Lucille Murray, Hugh and Menerva Oden and Bill Hallaur and Elsie Cannon-Hallaur.

Visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday June 11 at the Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit, Mo. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 12 in Holton Cemetery in Holton.
