Fred Joy 1946-2021

Fred Joy, 75, Hoyt, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2021, at his home.

He was born May 27, 1946, in Holton, the son of Max and Marian Overstreet Joy. He graduated from Hoyt High School in 1964.

Mr. Joy was a firefighter with the Topeka Fire Department, retiring at the rank of captain. He owned and operated Top Hat Chimney Sweep for 26 years. He was a certified chimney sweep and served on the board of directors of the National Chimney Sweep Guild. He had also been an official for ASA Softball for many years.

He married Barbara Marts on Dec. 1, 1989, in Las Vegas, Nev. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Terry Joy and wife Christine, Topeka, and Tracy Joy and wife Holly, Ardmore, Okla.; four daughters, Tamra Nincehelser and husband Todd, Topeka, Kimberly Look, Olathe, Julie Goss, Kingdom of Tonga, and Melissa Price and husband Richard, Sachse, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Griffin.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19 at Hoyt United Methodist Church.
